Leola Elementary was recently named a National Title I Distinguished School by the National Title I Association.

The school was chosen by the South Dakota State Department of Education based on outstanding performance in one of three categories:

  • Category 1: Exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years
  • Category 2: Closing the achievement gap between student groups
  • Category 3: Excellence in serving special populations of students (e.g. homeless, migrant, English learners, etc.)

Each year, only two schools in the state receive this national recognition. As a result, this is a particularly impressive honor for the students, staff, parents, and community. Leola Elementary School received this prestigious honor based on category two; closing the achievement gap between student groups.
